Ingredients
- 1 ¼ cups Protein Flour Co. All-Purpose Protein Flour
- ½ cup applesauce sweetened or unsweetened—adjust to preference
- 2 tablespoons sugar or preferred sweetener
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 1 can of Apple pie filling sweetened or unsweetened—adjust flavor with cinnamon or sugar if desired
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) if baking. Prepare a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
- In a bowl, mix the protein flour, applesauce, sugar, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until a soft dough forms. Let it rest for a few minutes.
- Divide the dough into 4 equal portions. If you have a tortilla press, line it with folded parchment paper and press each dough ball flat. (Alternatively, roll out each portion between two pieces of parchment paper.)
- Add a spoonful of apple pie filling to one side of the flattened dough. Use the parchment paper to fold the dough over the filling, forming a half-moon shape.
- Seal the edges with a fork to prevent leaking. If baking, cut 3 small slits across the top for steam to escape.
- Transfer each pocket to the parchment-lined baking sheet.
- Bake for about 18 minutes, or until golden brown. (If frying, do NOT cut slits—simply fry at 350°F for about 2½–3 minutes per side, until golden.)
- Sprinkle lightly with cinnamon and sugar after baking or frying. Optionally drizzle with icing or glaze for extra sweetness.
- Enjoy warm—crispy outside, gooey inside!
